Origins of Baseball

Main article: Origins of baseball

The distinct evolution of baseball from among the various bat-and-ball games is difficult to pin point. However, it is mainly agreed that modern baseball is a North American development from the earlier game rounders.

The earliest known mention of the sport is in a 1744 British publication, A Little Pretty Pocket-Book by John Newbery. It contains a wood-cut illustration of boys playing "base-ball" (showing a similar set-up to the modern game, yet significantly different) and a rhymed description of the sport.

Ah, not to be trolling your questions, but now I see where you think baseball is Canadian.

North America is the name of the continent shared by both the United States AND Canada. It does not mean "north of the United States of America." That's like calling Mexico "South America", which is in fact ALSO in North America.

Yes, ROUNDERS was invented in England... but baseball is not rounders. It is loosley based on rounders, and was invented in America.

Also, if you want to pull that sort of logic to say that baseball isn't American, then basketball isn't in fact Canadian, it's MAYAN. But it too was invented in America, albeit by a Canadian. It also gained popularity in both the United States and Canada, so technically you could say it belongs to both, although basketball grew much more popular here. Whatever.
