I was diagnosed with High risk cervical dysplasia (CIN III) a step away from cervical cancer. after my biopsy a leep procedure was done, to get reed of all the bad cells, after the tissue was examined in lab, test returned negative for dysplasia, Which is Great!! BUT

I really want to get Pregnant again, and doctor recommended not to do so,,, or at least wait for 2 more years and after that he even suggested taking my uterus out, which doesn't make any sence to me.... if test is negative, and I'm suppose to be free of dysplasia, why shouldn't I get pregnant, and even worst get my uterus taken out???

I'm really depressed, I only have one child, we were planning for at least 2, I'm 33 already, and it worries me that if I get pregnant at all, I can be putting my self and the baby in danger.

Any one that has gone through the same, that can give me some insight,

Please help!!

you really need a second opinion. if you had cin 3 and a leep with negative margins, then you are cured. you do not need a hysterectomy unless you are not telling the whole story. if this was your 2nd or 3rd leep or cone biopsy and you still had high grade dysplasia you would be best served with hysterectomy. for your run-of-the-mill CIN III - leep is all you need. you certainly can have a child following leep and many many women do. there is a small risk of developing cervical insufficiency following leep where the cervix is weakened and puts you at risk for miscarriage but this is the exception not the rule and it can be treated anyway. when you do get pregnant your doctor may measure the length of your remaining cervix with ultrasound, if it is very short they may place a stitch in your cervix called cerclage to keep it closed. but honestly, most women do not need it and have totally normal pregnancies following leep. do yourself a favor and get a second opinion. do not go to your doctors partner who works with him, docs who work together may tend to have similar viewpoints

HI there, I had the moderate to severe displasia, cone biopsy and leep treatment also. I went back every 3 months and heven't had and abnormal cells since. I got pregnant with my son 1 year and 3 months after the leep, and had a healthy pregnancy and baby. We are currently trying for #2. There is no reason to take you uterus at this point. Just make sure you go in every 3 months for a pap to make sure that the cells haven't changes, and go ahead and start trying. I would get a different opinion from a different doctor too. Your doctor sounds like he is jumping the gun. Even if you do have some cancer cells, you can still carry. A friend of mine had severe dysplasia when she found out she was pregnant, carried to term, and then had a hysterectomy. If you are all clear now, I would try, before it comes back, which it may not. Just wait at least 3 months after the leep so your servix is completly healed.

They say 2 years because if you are pregnant and cancer develops, it will be difficult or impossible to treat. THey would probably have to wait until the pregnancy is over, and by then the cancer may have spread.

Also, it when your cervix is thinner due to a LEEP, it is harder for it to hold a baby, and there is a greater risk of losing the baby ("incompetent cervix")--usually you would lose the baby late in the pregnancy, because when it is small there is not as much tension on the cervix.

But mostly the first reason--after 2 dysplasia-free years, then it's likely you only have to worry about the incompetent cervix possibility instead of that AND cancer.

I have had to have this done twice. The only warning I got from my doctor was to -Wait for two weeks before having sex or using tampons-. In fact, I was very upset before the first procedure, my doctor asked me why, I told him that I wanted another child and that I was scared that having the procedure would take that opportunity away from me. He practically called me crazy and then went on to explain that the cervix regenerates itself in less than 14 days. I was amazed at that.
If your doc. is talking about a partial hysto. are you sure that you may not have something else going on? as the cervical issue and a uterine issue are two totally different things! Lastly, please never forget that you always reserve the right to get a second opinion.
Good Luck to you

Enjoying the feeling of motherhood and raising a family would surely be a couple’s dream. Some get it naturally, while for some others things don’t seem to work as they desire. These reasons which stop a women from conceiving can be due to either physical reasons or truly physiological.

Depending on how much tissue the doctor removed, the muscular integrity of your cervix might be compromised right now. You'll have no difficulty conceiving because of it, but you might have trouble carrying a baby to term. You're fortunate to have one child. If you don't feel like you can wait before having another child, consider adoption. Just think how heartbreaking it would be to concieve a child and miscarry.

Nothing to worry. Follow Dr. advise and u will certainly have one more child but doubt is that uterus may be removed along with the baby. All the best. Patience.
