I have a Fatality aa8xe motherboard. P4 3.06gHz
cpu, socket775. I tried to replace the cpu with a Pentium D 840 3.2gHz dual core. When I boot up, the monitor remains blank. The motherboard shows a post code of 9.0.(complete uGuru initial process, AWARD BIOS take over booting job)
Then nothing....blank monitor. I put the orig cpu back in and everything works fine.
Any suggestions? Thanks. Ponka

OK, the CPU COULD be bad, but the problem is most likely the motherboard. Your specific motherboard is discontinued now, and does not support the ability to work with Pentium D CPUs, or any other dual processor on the market. Luckily for you, there are many cheap motherboards that will accomodate this cpu :), and they won't cost you nearly what you paid for the cpu itself. I would suggest either an ABit like you have now, or Asus which is my favorite mb manufacturer.

Quite simply your motherboard doesn't support that processor. Here's the link to Abits site for your motherboard. Notice it does say Celeron D processors. Not D series dual cores. Unfortunatly you will need a new motherboard to support that new CPU.

According to Abit, that mobo does not support the 8XX series Pentium CPUs.

I have no clue. Could be you need to upgade your bios for your new cpu. But before we guess I would check this forum for answers to your particular MB.

Have you checked the specs on that mobo to verify it can handle the Pentium-D?
