I am a member of Ebay UK, and recentlyi have noticed that the amount of items on sale in the motorcycle section has become less and less. Insted of pages of results for a particular model, i only get 20+ results. I wander if this is due to some changes ebay have made, or perhaps people are loosing interest in this online auction site???

There can be several reasons:

- The rising fees on eBay makes it more expensive to sell on eBay, and sellers are now feeling the pain.
- Sellers are migrating over to other online auction sites because they realize that doing eBay alone is not the most cost efficient way to sell

There's a new book out that explores why sellers need to consider other auction sites and not just focus on eBay alone. It is called “Selling Beyond eBay: Foolproof Ways to Reach More Customers and Make Big Money on Rival Online Marketplaces” by Greg Holden (AMACOM, July 13, 2006). http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0814473490/powerhomebizguid

The author advises, “if you focus solely on eBay for your online auction sales, you might be selling yourself short.” So why sell beyond eBay?

1. Other auction sites are less expensive and more user-friendly than eBay
2. You can reach dedicated collectors in other niche auction sites
3. You can increase your profit margin by moving some of your sales from eBay to other venues
4. You diversify your sales channel
5. Look beyond eBay to save money and find new customers

I heard that Ebay hiked their rates again, perhaps this is the reason.
