Well, Bush wants ulimate power, and removing habeas corpus would basically give him the right to imprison suspects (suspected terrorists) without obtaining any evidence against them first. As it stands now, people cannot be held without being charged and cannot be charged without any possible proofs having already been discovered. Without habeus corpus people rumored to have done something or suspected of doing or planning to do something could be arrested and put in prison for any legnth of time. No evidence would be necessary to charge them.
What happens if the government suspects innocent Americans of being terrorists? How is it going to be decided whether or not habeus corpus applies? You can't have laws that only apply to some people and other laws that only apply to others. There will ALWAYS be some overlapping grey areas.
Don't trust too much when people say this would not affect the average american...America is a multi-cultural country and a lot of "terrorists" may already live there, and a lot of them may not actually be terrorists (if you get my meaning, they may be the "wrong" religion or color)...how do you know FOR SURE if evidence is not necessary to charge and detain?

Bush's problem is that he's totally incompetent, hasn't got sense enough to come in out of the rain, and is an idiot. As a result, he lets Cheney, Rove, Rummy, and Condolezzy make all this decisions for him since he doesn't have the sense to make those decisions himself. Chances are his habeas corpus comments are the result of more bad advice - this time from his Attorney General. If he had two brain cells that functioned properly, he'd probably consider himself a genius. But, since he's a total and complete fool, he doesn't know what he's doing and lets the puppetmasters who are controlling his strings tell him what to do and when to do it.

If Bush has taken away your habeas corpus, then you must be a terrorist who has been captured.
Terrorists are the only ones who have lost any freedom.

His problem is that, on top of all the regular duties a President has to carry out, on one side he has to fight a war against the Islamo-Facists who want to kill us all because we don't worship their Prophet and, on the other side, he has to battle the loony lefties who are constantly making his job harder by making it appear that he doesn't have the support of the American people behind his efforts. The delusional liberals still think that they know what's best for us, even though theey've had their butts handed to them in every election since 1996. They have no answers and they have no ideas. They would betray this Country if it meant pushing their agenda.

Limiting the rights of detainees has nothing to do with the rest of society.
Don't worry, your habeas rights are alive and well, and the only time you will need them is if you run out of the ordinary processes afforded criminal defendants...

Bush's problem. Lack of support from the American people. It doesn't matter whether you voted for him or not. No one can do anything without at least a little backing.

he should take it away from ONLY captured terrorists because if we gave them habeus corpus, they could still commit terrorist crimes while awating trial
it should be kept for american citizens though

by removing h/b, it would only apply to certain situations, and personnel, not to the entire American public.it would open avenues to INTERROGATE POW,and enemy combatants to a more extensive degree. All the LIBERAL democrats want to give the enemy combatants the same rights as we have, such as a LAWYER,thus making a court case including evidence, etc and tie up our already overloaded courts, and Iif you think about it our SOLDIERS dont get any rights afforded them by the EXTREMEIST MUSLIMS,[NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE EXTREMEIST] Our guys and Gals get beaten, tortured, and killed and by removing the h\b in certain situations,We can extract info from them and not worry about their rights as to our court systems.I CERTAINLY DONT WANT THEM TO HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS I DO IF THEY'RE NOT GOING TO TREAT OUR PEOPLE THE SAME WAY.
