Set Up: (Set in 3681) Makori lives in an almost abandoned town on a large comet that orbits Mars. Her parents are dead and she lives with her Aunt and Uncle on a special farm that collects rare gasses form outer space and stores them so that they can be sold. Makori's brother use to live with them, but he disappeared five years ago when he went on a trip to salvage anything he could find from E7 [several centuries before, Earth was destroyed when a nuclear war heads was hijacked by an extremist group. They set it off, which killed million s of people and caused massive earthquakes that ripped the planet apart. Almost everyone on earth was killed, leaving only the members of scattered space colonies to rebuild the human "empire." E7 is what's left, a large body of debris that orbits the sun]. Makori's aunt and uncle want to marry her off to their land owner's spoiled son so that they can live in comfort. Makori decides to run away from home with her "cyberpet", Nekoki [a small artificial life form in the shape of a cat that understands basic language functions and can perform simple tasks]. She travels to E7, crash landing in an area that use to be a forest. Luckily, there is still oxygen there, so she decides to stay to plan out what she is going to do. Makori finds an old talisman/ necklace and, not knowing what else to do, takes it with her. She decides to go to the old North Pole, because it's where her brother always wanted to go and always wanted to take her. Once she gets there, she sees the aurora borealis. When the light of the aurora borealis hits the talisman, she and Nekoki are transported to another dimension.
Story: Makori and Nekoki end up in a strange country. It's actually a gigantic laboratory, and they are in the giant biosphere, designed to support life. They come across a species of genetically engineered "little men", who take her to there home. On their way there, they are ambushed by a sort of "living crystal", which traps people inside of it and sucks away their life. [Note: the crystal is an emerald color] Makori uses the talisman to stop it, and the little men appear to worship her for this. [unknown to them, they are being watched by two large crow like creatures] They take her to their "elder", who speaks a little of her language. He tells her that she must go to the "City of Emerald Crystals" and kill the crystal at its source. She agrees, and they tell her to follow the trail of yellow flowers. On the trail, she finds an artificial life form trapped in crystal, and she frees it. It look like a scarecrow, or at least a person made out of cloth. It doesn't talk, but follows her, and they come across a robot who is out of charge. Makori finds him an outlet, and he asks if he can join her and the scarecrow. He tells her that the land she is in is a biosphere, and that the crystal, the little men, the scarecrow, and himself were all experiments, and that the trail of yellow flowers leads to the center of the lab, where everything is, or was, controlled from. He tells her that the lab was abandoned years ago, and that it was slowly shutting down until, several years ago, it just started working again. That is also when strange birds started to appear. He tells her that he was on his way to the center, which is also caled the City of Emerald Crystals to find out what made everything work again before he shut down. They all decide to travel together. After following the trail for a few days, they are attacked by a large, lion like creature. It attacks Nekoki, and Makori uses the talisman to stop it. It starts to cry, and Makori asks it what's wrong. The creature tells her that it only attacked them to prove to itself that it wasn't a coward, and that it was sorry. Makori asks if it wants to come with, and the lion says yes. They all decide to travel to the City of Emerald Crystals [C.O.E.C.] together. However, they are ambushed by crow like creatures, who try to keep them from getting to the C.O.E.C. When they do get there, they ask if they can see the person in charge. They are sent away, but they break into the Emerald Palace [where the person in charge lives] and sneak their way to the throne room. They are confronted by a huge crystal bird, but Makori uses the talisman against it. The bird disappears, revealing Makori's brother as the person who stopped the crystals. He tells her that he found a talisman like hers on E7, and that the same thing happened to him. They share a joyful reunion, but it is cut short by an army of giant crow creatures that snatch up Makori and take her away. She is knocked out, and wakes up to find herself in a castle without windows. A crow creature takes her to the "Master", a man who resembles her father. He tells Makori to give him the talisman, but she refuses. He tells her why he wants the talisman. He was once a scientist who worked at the lab. His wife worked there too, but the lab kidnapped her and started using her for experiments. The husband found out and released all of the other experiments, hoping to destroy the lab and drive the other scientist out. He did, but his wife had died in an experiment that changed her into a life form crystal instead of skin and bones. He then encased her in crystals similar to her new chemistry, hoping to preserve her until he could find a cure. However, the crystal began to search for life to sustain its own and keep the scientists wife alive. The scientist then created the crow creatures to protect his wife while she was encased in crystal. The scientist tells her that he believes that the talisman could bring his wife back to life. With this explanation, he shows her his wife, who looks almost exactly like Makori's mom. She is about to give him the talisman when her brother, the scarecrow, the robot, and the lion come to her rescue. She tells them the scientist's story, and her brother offers to give the scientist his talisman as well. The scientist agrees, but a grow creature stops him from putting the talismans in a machine that will transfer their power to the crystal. The crow creature tells him that he is a fool and that he could have ruled the land if he weren't so blinded by emotions like love. The crow creature then takes the talismans and flies away with the other crow creatures, promising to wreck havoc and that the crow creatures shall rule the land.
Will Makori and her brother get their crystals back? Will the scientist bring his wife back to life? Will the crows rule the land? Find out!
