Aye, there's the rub. Based on past cylces, the current interglacial phase should be coming to a close. The fact that global warming trends show exactly the opposite, is part of the reason for suspecting human interferrence in the mechanism.
That said, whatever we do to the climate will be temporary in the overall scheme of things. The cycle of ice advance and retreat in the Northern hemisphere is a good 2 million yrs old, and older still in the south.
As Arnie once said "I(ce)'ll be Back!"

The ice from the last ice age has melted back to its present position and is still melting. Some say that "global warming" is what happens between ice ages. It is almost inevitable that there will be more ice ages, but as it is believed that the earth is still warming, not cooling, I don't think the next one will be any time soon

We are currently in an ice age. The ice at both poles shows this. Ice ages have variations within themselves so we are currently in a warmer patch.

We are in an ice age. An ice age has fluctuations within itself.

Well the earth is only 8,000 - 10,000 years old so it's going to be awhile.
Then again the people in Western NY think it is happening now!
