Omni-directional means "all sides" or "all directions". For 2-way radio communications, your signal emited by your antenna is open to all directions but covers a shorter area as compared to a uni-directional which is concentrated only towards a single direction.
This is also applicable to microphones. Of course, omni-directional are usually more advanced and more expensive.

The prefix Omni usually means "all" like Omni-Potent (all-powerful) or Onmnisicent (all seeing). So my guess would be "all directions"
