People, please reread the question's follow-on. He is only interested in answers which support his own preconceptions. Try to be more supportive of his psychological need for validation for goodness sake.

On the bus the other day a dear friend that I met by commuting, reminded me of all of the inventions that came from space travel. There has been many. These inventions have helped our world more than they are given credit to. It is ashame that people don't see that, I know that I didn't untill it was pointed out to me. Optics and eye glasses and so many things have been developed and invented from space exploration. YES, we should reallocate the resources on earth. However, space exprotation program does contribute to a better life on earth too.

Abolish overcrowding? The Earth is overcrowded? Do you live in China? Let's examine, shall we...

The population of the Earth is estimated at 6,500,000,000 people.

Next, the total land area on Earth is 57,505,708 square miles.

Now let's do some math:

57,505,708 / 6,500,000,000 = 0.008847032 square mile per person. Let's convert this into an easily understandable land area unit... the acre. 0.008847032 square mile equals 5.66 acres.

5.66 acres for every single living person on the Earth is crowded?!

So I bet you would now postulate that the U.S. is really crowded though, eh?

The population of the U.S. is about to reach 300,000,000 (including all of the illegal immigrants), so let's go ahead and use this figure for the current population.

The total land area for the U.S. is 3,718,695 square miles.

Here comes the math:

3,718,695 / 300,000,000 = 0.01239565 square mile for every man, woman, and child in the U.S. Now the acreage... 0.01239565 square mile is just shy of 8 acres.

8 acres for every man, woman, and child in America? That's a little strange to comprehend because people live together as a family so I'll throw some perspective on it.

The average family consists of 2 adults and 1.5 children. So that would make 27.76 acres per family. I don't know about you... but me and my wife and my daughter all live on 0.5 of an acre.

Let's knock off all the "overcrowding" talk, shall we?

Yes i support it wholeheartedly. But no one is willing to pay for it. It'll take hundreds of trillions of dollars and a few hundred years to reform a planet in the solar system for it to be the right conditions for life. If we were to explore outside the solar system, our technology is not reliable to extend so far out and we would not be able to transport supplies as often as needed.

We need to develop our space technologies so we can populate the galaxy.
