I cannot support scrapping all research on space. For each dollar spent on NASA alone, we get 7 dollars back in benefits! And not just things like Velcro (which was not invented by NASA anyway) but things like advanced treatment for diabetes, the development of new techniques to make drugs easier, and many many more things. Do a search on "NASA spinoffs" and you'll find lots of stuff that will not support your position.

If you are preparing for a debate on this topic, you can't just ignore these facts - you will need to have an argument against them, as your opponent will surely lead with them.

Exploration of space is an exercise in futility. Its fun to watch on the TV. As far as we know, there is no food or water in or solar system. In four decades of space travel we have made less then ten trips to the closest object that we can see. Thousands work on it, billions spent on it, and we can buy Velcro now. For the public cost of one space exploration, the number of teachers could be doubled and would still have change to plant food that could be free.
The resources that have been exausted, time, money, fossil fuel and building materials used can never justify the humanity that has suffered and died due to a lack of fundamental resources.

There are not any nutrition scarcity in the worldwide, there is a lot to feed anybody. the challenge is one among distribution; the climate the place anybody is ravenous are zones of conflict, and human beings can not feed themselves because of fact they are bullied out of their fields via warring factions; who additionally forestall (or scouse borrow) international help from accomplishing those in want. area exploration would not fee a penny to ravenous human beings, it would not take any nutrition away, and it does pay for the income of 1000's of experienced people who could ideally be out of a job (and because they have a job, they could make a contribution money to international alleviation help to ravenous human beings). area exploration would not cut back the quantity of nutrition available, in case you have been to resign area exploration you may have various unemployed human beings, and a few money you may no longer use to purchase nutrition besides, because of fact all of the nutrition is already being bought out.
