the best world would be one where people over the age of 25, with a very positive work history, no criminal acts, no felonies, were all able to carry a gun. Our crime rate would be substantially lower just like in canada, they have almost no crime. Would you really walk up and rob and beat up someone and commit all the crimes this world does if you knew that person had a gun on them? no. Everyone would mind their own business, this works, if it didnt canada wouldnt allow it. This country is not as free as everyone thinks. PLease tell me you agree...Tho you ignorant ones will have some beautiful comments id love to read.

Don't you think that the best world would be one where no one would have to carry a gun? The US used to allow people to carry guns, but it didn't work out so well in the 1800's. After the civil war, especially, people carrying guns didn't lower the crime rate, it escalated it.
In reference to your in reference:
In the 1800's, if you were convicted of murder (in any degree), you were publicly hanged. If you stole a horse, you got the same. I personally know two people who committed murder. One was out in 6 years, the other in 9 years. No hard labor or chain gangs, just time in climate controlled prisons with 3 meals (not great, but not rancid, either), and a mattress to sleep on. Times certainly have changed. Our laws are so much less restrictive then they used to be, and criminals have so many more rights that it boggles the mind. Over the past 40 years, people have demonstrated over and over again that the legal system in the US works against the innocent and for the guilty. I'm not saying I hate the US or think it's a terrible country, but I've been in law enforcement for nearly 20 years and I watch attorneys bend the laws to benefit rapists and murders all the time. In the 1800's, no one cared if your mother didn't breast feed you or if your dad was loving. If you did the crime, you paid a heavy price. Now, more guns would mean more people getting away with murder. Or, at least, serving less time in better prisons for taking decent people away from the families forever.
PS - I'd be more than happy to personally execute everyone on death row from accross the nation, but I am still against the average person over 25 having the ability to carry a gun. You put way too much faith in your fellow man. People kill each other over the most ridiculous reasons now when gun control is somewhat enacted. Imagine if it wasn't. You may respect the law, but that doesn't account for the huge majority of people who don't. We need tougher laws, longer sentences, less comfortable prisons, and FEWER GUNS....

Well, the only problem with what you say is that your facts are wrong. Canada has a very strong gun control program. All guns must be registered with the government. (Would you support that law here?) And they take enforcement seriously. Check out the stories on this page of the Canadian government.

You could pick another country where many citizens have guns, with little government regulation. Like Mexico and Brazil. Or Iraq. Oops. Doesn't support your argument. Those are all dangerous places.

Yes, Canada has more firearms per capita than the US, but we also have much stricter firearms regulations. Every firearm owner must have a licence, all of their firearms must be registered, and certain firearms are prohibited.
Not only would I not rob someone because I though he might have a gun, I wouldn't rob someone because it's illegal, unethical, and morally wrong. But then if everyone carried guns I could just shoot the guy before robbing him.

Crime goes down wherever the "Concealed-Carry" law goes into effect.
Most states have it now, many for that same reason.
Lawful citizens are not allowed to own firearms in Britain, and I believe they have more crimes per capita, than we do. It is high, at least.
Don't know about Canada.
Wherever lawful citizens don't own firearms, the criminals still do.

I'm not sosure the crime rate has diminished but here in Minnesota anyone can carry a concealed weapon.. you just have to take the training and pass a test first. And no felonies of course.

I have it in my billfold, it is called a hunting licence. I have owned guns since I was 9 years old and have never caused a human being any harm. My guns have never even been pointed at another human being. Not that I wouldn't if I was in danger because I would and I would use it to protect myself if I felt it neccessary. I am 60
