Why does the grass always look greener on the other side of the fence?

For example, why is it that when you are in a relationship other people seem better than your partner does? Alternatively, what you do not have seemed better than what you already have.

The grass seems to turn less green as we age...it is a 'been there done that" thing. The grass on the other side has NO bad experiences attached to it, no day-to-day troubles, no adjustments to accomodate the other mixed in with it...it only LOOKS better because we see only its beauty. Walking in the new grass brings all the old grass's troubles, and its beauty fades quickly. Good luck

This is what we say, "Blue are the hills that are far from us." Isn't that true...? When u see the Alphs from far.. it looks so nice and beautiful... but when u get on top of a peak then u feel like "oh! that one is nicer." Similar for whatever peak u go to.. u say the same thing.

So, the same case in ur relationship too... but hey don't get fooled. If u r in a serious relationship and u should be dedicated in such a way that u do not not care about any other girls/boys.... if that is the case... u know that urs is better and as best as it can go than the people u see around. Relationship has no visual size... so its all your mind. So, if both u & ur partner is dedicated to this relationship then... u know that u r better than others.

Speak for yourself. It's only Western culture that promotes this kind of thinking, and it's so that people will all feel empty and hollow, and therefore be more easily marketed to. I'm completely happy and content, and have never thought the grass was greener on the other side. Stop worrying about what you haven't got and start concentrating on what you have. Otherwise you're going to have an empty, meaningless life.

One of the reasons that humans have evolved as far as they have is because they don't want to settle for what they've got, they always want more and better! So you can blame evolution for your dissatisfaction!!

In my case the grass is greener over the fence because they look after their lawn!!! And everyone else has got a better partner than me :-D (that last was a joke but if I tell everyone he's bad then no one else will want him lol)

This sounds as if you are a very dissatisfied person indeed. Of course, sometimes someone else's possession or husband or wife might look more exciting than yours, mostly because you don't know all the details, so your imagination supplies some very attractive ones. But on the whole you should know what you what and what you don't want, and act accordingly.
Try to be satisfied with the things/people you choose. If they are truly unsatisfying, give them up, but not because other people's look better, please!

Because, everyone is always comparing their lives to someone elses if it's either "Oh they have a more beautiful wife--better car etc;" it's just in our human nature to compare--judge--and get jealous. To overcome this just simply think that things on the outside appearence are not always what they seem.

I honestly don't feel that way. I think that I have very, very much to thank God for and whenever I have been tempted to feel envious of anybody, I have discovered something about that person or that person's life which makes me glad that I don't have to put up with that particular problem!
