First of all when he was a baby he never looked in our eyes, still has a tough time, only eats very plain food and only certain foods. He is not doing very well socially at all. I removed him from school last year because of name calling and bullies and it is not the way he looks but how he acts. If He meets another kid for the first time and they say Hi he won't say hi back but run forcefully into a wall ,fall down then say 'i''mmm all RIIIght! oTher kids his age just don't respond to this kind of thing in a good way. and that's just an 1 example. And h's almost 11 and very immature for his age. My heart is breaking what can I do?He is also having a very hard time at school focusing.

Just to let you know, the reason i pulled him out of school is because he was very depressed and wanting to hurt himself, and there was just 2 weeks left anyway. He is back in a new school now but the same thing is starting to happen all over again.

I have worked with children with autism and special needs for 16 years. Please get a referral to a pediatric neurodevelopmental doctor or neurologist who can help you make a diagnosis and put you in touch with the right school program and therapists. Your son is entitled to a variety of free services to help him develop academically, socially, etc. Please speak to someone about this-there is so much assistance out there. I don't know what state you live in, but in NJ, COSAC is an organization for children with autism spectrum disorders. Look it up on the web. Good luck!

First of all aspergers usually run in families and I would say do you have it? Its quite possible he is just an awkward kid (11 year olds often are) and bring him to a specialist if you feel it necessary. You sounds like a concerned mother - and that is really good - but don't diagnose your kid yourself - you can't be objective on this and all you are going to do for sure is give him a need for serious counseling when he gets older. It sounds like your making him into a social outcast my pulling him out of school and teaching him the best way to deal with his fears is to run away from them.
Take him to a specialist and then get him back into school.

My little brother has it, too. There are six main criteria for Asperger Syndrome: 1) Qualitative impairment in social interaction; 2) The presence of restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped behaviors and interests; 3) Significant impairment in important areas of functioning; 4) No significant delay in language; 5) No significant delay in cognitive development, self-help skills, or adaptive behavior; and 6) The symptoms must not be better accounted for by another specific pervasive development disorder or schizophrenia. If you think your son falls in that range, then I'd suggest getting him diagnosed. You can talk to your school district's SEPTA (Special Education PTA) or SEPFC (Special Education PFC), whichever your district has, and can help in the diagnosis and place him in special classes.

Talk to your son's doctor about getting testing. It usually involves going to see a Neurologist and a Psychiatrist. If he is diagnosed then you can work with the school to get him into a program that will work for him. You will need to get him an IEP. Talk to your school's Special Education department. You should talk with your Special Education department ASAP to tell them your concerns. Tell them you are in the process of getting him tested for Autism/Asbergers. You want him to have a successful time in school.

you have done the first big step. aspergers is very close to ADD or ADHD. go to the school system and see what help they have. there are people to help them with homework and post high school plans. the aides will help and do a great job. if the school does not have a system for kids you may want to move. also, get him into sports. i was in sports and it changed my life.

Rather than guessing what is wrong, he needs to be seen by a doctor and a proper diagnosis made. Then a proper treatment plan can be worked out. From what you have said, he really need to see the doctor quickly.

I do not know much about that particular disorder, but for you own sanity, I would check with the pediatrician. I know when something comes up, most of us automatically assume the worst and drive ourselves crazy. Make an appt with his pediatrician and let him know about your concerns. Good luck!

Don't worry honey, there is help out there. I would talk to his teachers for some resources for your benefit as well as his. I am in no way an expert, so I don't want to try and diagnose him over the internet like this. I would encourage to to dig and find what you can. You are doing great mom - keep it up.

The boy does not know social norms, teach him social norms.
They have impairment in social interaction
