I read that book about a month ago (mid-September) and I couldn't quite make up my mind about it. I loved it AND I hated it with equal passion. It's a rare book in many ways in that it stays with you long after you read the last page and close the book.

I would say that you should read it if you like reading as a journey and being swept along by the story and becoming consumed in the emotions of the characters. It is a very well-crafted story, told in beautiful style, uses mood and tone a great deal. I thought it was very well-written.

I would say that you shouldn't read it if you're emotionally immature. If you have a hard time separating fiction from reality then this isn't the book for you. Meaning, if you won't read Little Women because Beth dies or if you can't bring yourself to watch sad movies like The Notebook or Titanic, etc. then this probably isn't the book for you.

My review does not spoil the book or the ending, so feel free to read it and make up your own mind.

Here is a very small portion of my review:

I have described the book itself. But I would like a chance to describe the book’s young hero. Bruno is the poster-child for innocence. He represents everything that is right with the world. Young. Naive. Innocent. Trusting. Care-free. Vulnerable. Honest. Gullible. In some ways The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a book about the very best in humanity colliding with the very worst in humanity...a novelization of humanity’s struggle with itself.
