ahhh Ok first off please dont panic. School nurses generall have no clue what lice look like. They mistake dandruff more often than not. Then the kids feel like outcasts when they get sent home and the mom feels dirty. First off. Lice live on clean heads. Not dirty heads. So the whole...ewwwwww they are dirty wives tale can be thrown out the window. and ill be more likely to say..she was more likely to get them at the movie theatre than at school. Lice cant jump. Did your friend take her daughter to the drs to get a postive ? if not..please dont panic. The chances of you getting them is slim...slimmer than most beleive. Im a hairdresser and have dealt with the "sent home thing" None of the kids actually had lice. Be a good friend and help her paint. and advise her to do some research. BTW. soon schools will not be sending kids home cause of it. It is not a health hazard whatsoever..just..sounds that way:) GL:)

Lice and nits (eggs) are really hard to get rid of. Rid also makes a spray. Couches, pillows, chairs, etc. can all be sprayed. Bedding needs to be washed in hot water and dryed as well as all clothing. Don't forget about the coats, blankets and comforters. Stuffed animals can be sprayed and bagged up for a week. Be sure your friend gets the nits out of her childs hair. It is impossible to tell old nits that have been shampooed with Rid from new nits. The car seats and headrests can be sprayed also. The carpet can be shampooed if the children are small and lying around on the floor alot. Good Luck

Head lice have become somewhat resistant to the over the counter remedies like Rid. Make sure the child is treated again in 2 weeks as this is when the next batch of eggs will hatch. Keep your own children from sharing hats, brushes , or sleeping with friends until you know the outbreak is controlled. Good luck!

go to the healthfood store and they have a oil that you can mix with your shampoo its like jojoba and something else mixxed in but it is awesome it is actually good for your hair unlike the chemicals and actually keeps them at bay better than the rid and even if they didnt clean good you will be protected and Im a hair dresser and I use this periodically cause I m at work and have to protect myself on a daily basis......good luck

Vacuum the carpets and furniture...the car too. A louse can't live longer than 24 hours without a blood supply...and they cannot feed off animals--it's gotta be human blood.
