If you have access to M.S. Excel software use it to graph this data and perform a linear regression analysis. Or just plot a graph by hand with year on the x axis and population on the y axis and just draw a line through the points and continue the line on the slope to the desired year.

It seems reasonable. Are you just supposed to estimate an answer based on the numbers you were given? It seems like every other decade the population increased by 6,000.

It seems logical, when the graph shows an increase of 6,000 every second year, that it would be 48,000. If you work it out in averages, four ten year
periods divided into the total increase in that period, 24,000, it again gives you 6,000. So, that works out at 48,000 also.
