some people do not have a heart

Good question. It's certainly not a job for the faint of heart. I'm sure though, that a good percentage of people who work in slaughter houses probably had a difficult time adjusting to both things they saw and to things they had to do. Over time though, especially if the person really wants or needs the job for monetary reasons, it is possible to just mentally adapt to the working conditions.

I remember seeing a documentary about working at slaughter houses once. This one was for cattle. I have to say, it made me feel kind of guilty about eating red meat. The job of one of the workers in this documentary was just gruesome - a cow would be herded into this chute-like thing. Once the cow got to the end of the chute, it would immediately clamp closed on both sides of the cow, then flip the cow upside down, with the cow's head hanging down. Then, this worker would slit the cow's throat. It was very difficult to watch. And the worker's clothes were just covered with blood.

In another part of the documentary, it talked about when we buy an average pound or so of hamburger meat at the grocery store, most people believe that package of meat came from one cow. According to this documentary though, that one package of meat can have parts of many cows in it.

I never even used to think about my meat consumption, (in the sense of animals being butchered). Over the years though, I've really changed my diet by greatly reducing my meat consumption, particularly red meat.

There are probably people who work at slaughter houses who once thought they could NEVER work in a place like that. But, as with life in general, we do what we have to do - even things we never thought we could.

for a person whose home fires burn because he brings home money by working in a slaughter house, it doesn't matter. for him its his job & he is performing it to the best of his ability.
its very easy to judge a person but one needs to go into the depth of the circumstances in which he chose to do this job. why do we eat non-vegetarian food , its not possible to eat it if there isn't someone working hard at theslaughter house. its a chain, where if we lose one link the whole chain breaks. it maintains the balance of nature.

The same way a person can work in a morgue. Some people are just immune to gory stuff.

You get used to whatever your doing. It's other peoples opinion you hear about. The same question can be asked about anything people do.
