it wont show you how you look through the eyes of others... but it gives you a general idea

Generally yes. The good quality mirrors have good reflective capabilities, the ordinary mirrors have flaws.
Businesses that depend on your purchase of items you think makes you look good (clothing stores) will hire an expert to buy the right mirrors (expensive ), adjust the lighting in the dressing rooms to minimize flaws through the clever use of shadows where it is more needed , such as minimizing wrinkles on the dress and in your face.
My final answer therefore is this / Yes a mirror shows what your face really looks like. The bigger the mirror and the better the quality, the reflection becomes more true to life. And uh, dont forget the lights please.

Not exactly, you might be thinner or fatter than you look on the mirror, ever noticed that in the mirrors of the clothing stores you always look thinner than on other mirrors?, a good mirror reflecting you exactly as you are costs more then the ones you can get at supermarkets, so I would say they reflect a close image to reality but not exactly what you look like

Some mirrors distort but is better than looking in a pool of water
or a shiney metal object

I'm myopic, so when I look into the mirror and see myself without using my spectacles, I look a certain way.
When I put on my specs, I see a different face.
When friends takes pictures of me, I look different from what I see with my specs on.
When I take neoprints, I, again, look differen - prettier ((:

mirror does not lie... even if you hate your face 100 times as bad as you hate your nasty neighbour, it shows you what you really look like up close and personal.

yes it shows what you look like but most of the time it depends on the lighting...bright light makes your complexion look harsh and dark lighting makes it look better and doesnt show your blimishes...so go out side in the natural lighting to see your true complexion

Yes.... unless it's really dirty. But if you dont trust mirrors that well....try taking pictures of yourself.
