I always used to think of myself as British first and English second. However, I now say I am English in defiance of all those politicians who want to destroy the English identity, while at the same time encouraging the Welsh and Scottish to feel more separate. We need more cohesion not less.

You advise Scottish? I evaluate myself Scottish. Over my lifeless body will I call myself British and it makes me livid at the same time as human beings from international locations like u . s . a . of america confuse us with being English :)) you imagine there is lack of solidarity? Scottish human beings not in any respect requested to be an element of england, in truth, truly some us might want to die for independence!

I am English not British and what really annoys me is when Scotland, Ireland and Wales, all countries that I love dearly, are participating in anything they play their own national song, yet when England play they play God Save the Queen, when they should be playing Land of Hope and Glory

This is surely a false dichotomy. The two are not mutually exclusive. I am British, I come from and live in the British Isles. I am genetically of Scots origin, I am Scottish. What's the problem?

SCOTTISH THRU N THRU AND PROUD OF MY HERITAGE! I read a lot of the other comments and again I come to the same conclusion about the English, they only celebrate when they do well and not when others ie: Wales, Ireland and Scotland do well, cos they think they own the country and that is why I will never say I am a Brit. We sing our own National Anthem because we have one same goes with Wales and Ireland... England doesn't have anyone clever enough to come up with their own tune! LoL!

It depends to whom I am speaking. Normally on check-in forms in hotels, whether at home or abroad I put English, but if I am speaking to someone from a different country I would probably say British.

At the end of the day, we should all say that we are Europeans. Come on people, let's embrace Europeanism. We are one. Let's enjoy our closeness and alienate the Americans!!!!
