A shopping trip with the friends not mom. Take them to the mall and be there but stay out of the way. Set the amount before you go. Sad when they get this age in some ways. Good luck!

Gift card for the mall. She will be able to use it at any of the stores that she wants to. As the mother of 3 daughters I know that this one is normally a big hit.

it is so hard to buy for teens. I have two (boys), and sometimes I throw my hands up.

A gift certificate to a local music shop can be good. I am big on books. My kids read a lot. Jewelry. You could buy it and if she doesn't like it, take her in to exchange it. Movie passes. A bunch of big fun pillows for her room. Kids love to lounge. Repaint her room with her to colors she likes. A cashmere sweater. Lands End has nice ones that are not too expensive.

It's always hard to buy for a teenager! I have found that they like to have a day with their friends...let them go to the mall, or take her and and a couple of friends to a show and for dinner, then go home for cake and rented videos or a make-up and nail polish party. It's not about the gift, it's about the memory of the special day!

MONEY! Take her on a shopping spree, a literal one, not one where you get things that you need. (my mom does that, I hate it). If you don't know what her favorite store is, ask her, and get her a gift card for it, with about $50 credit on it. If she doesn't even have a favorite store, then see if your local mall sells giftcards for the whole mall. Good luck!

A copy of her favorite music group's CD, a DVD from her favorite t.v. show, a diary with a lock and key, or a special day treat for her and some of her friends. Those are some ideas.
