Lol, you put it on your finger. j/k According to your body's temperature, the mood ring adjusts colors. Ordinarly, if you are angry, your temperatur will rise, nervous, it will drop. The chemicals inside the mood ring only respond to the temperature, and the manufacturers use the colors to color code a chart for your mood. (I've had one I could sometimes see the colors changing!) So of course, if you dip your and in snow or something, you won't get a near accurate reading. btw, it may look like stones, but if they change colors they're chemicals or chemical coated.

Hope that helped.

Mood rings have the same material that is in a LCD computer monitor or an LCD TV screen. Have you ever noticed that when you touch an LCD screen, the colors change? Well, the reason a mood ring changes colors is because it actually has the same heat-sensitive material in an LCD screen. A mood ring can really only judge your body heat, not your mood. Ask me questions, I collect mood rings.

The stone is temperature sensitive. The theory is that certain emotions will effect your body temperature, and the ring will change color to reflect the difference. For example, if you get angry, your blood will start pumping faster and your temperature will go up a little, the ring warms up and turns a lighter color. If you are sad and depressed, you're whole body slows down, your temperature drops a little, and the stone gets darker.
