There's ton's of things to do in and around Cancun. Of course like some people said above the beaches. You should really check out Isla Mujeres. It's a little island off of Cancun, it takes about a 20 min. ferry ride. It has the best beaches in and around Cancun. You can rent mopeds, bikes, or golf carts to get around the island. You rarely see cars, mostly just taxi's everyone else drives golf carts. Cute little shops, resturants, and more. It's a very cute island you should take a day to go and see it.

Xel-ha and Xcaret
They are both natural water parks. Xel-ha is about and hour - two hour drive from Cancun. Worth the trip though. Huge bay to snorkel a natural lazy river, swimming with the dolphins, and more. It's really beautiful there.

Xcaret is about an hour drive from Cancun. They have great river caves. It's like a lazy river within a cave. It's great, and safe my 2 1/2 year old did it. It's really beautiful. The also have beaches, natural pools made in the reef, swimming with dolphins, diffrent kinds of animals, water activites, and a night show. I recommend you to go during the week, the weeken gets a bit crowded.

Aktun-Chen
Aktun Chen is great. In a natural setting with animals, underground water pools. It's like walking in a natural zoo.

Playa del Carmen is a great little town about 45 mins from Cancun. Beaches are a little better than the beaches on the Cancun hotel zone, they're not as rough. They have great little shops, a whole street of them actually. If you like relaxing on the beach listening to great music they have that too, they also have a little bar where you can relax on beds and listen to lounge music(an Ibiza like atmosphere) just less people.

Cancun also has this little boat adventure. You follow a guide but you drive your own boat. It's a little boat, looks like a really minature speed boat. You take a tour of the lagoon and the ocean around Cancun. They also got night dinner cruises. The most popular being this big pirate looking boat. Lobster or steak dinner, music, and entertainment after. Crusing around cancun.

There is so many things to do here. It just depends on what kinds of things you enjoy doing. Whatever it is you'll find it. If you like jungle tours, water sports, or just relaxing you'll find it. I've been living here for almost a year now and I still haven't done and seen everything there is to offer here.

We go to Canun at least 2 weeks every year. We did go one year in November and found that you can do anything in November that you can do at any other time of year. The air temp is generally in the 80's and the water is warm. If it gets cloudy it could get a little cooler. We went snorkeling at Puerto Morales which is a really nice fishing village. We wanted to go to Cozumel but we were told if the only thing we were interested in doing was snorkeling, then go to P.M. You'll have a great time-enjoy!!

Yes, get your PADI Open Water dive certification before you go. It'll take you a work-week of evenings to obtain and give you a lifetime of great experiences and photographs to share when you return from your vacations...
