I see two issues here. First of all, electric dryers do not produce any kind of fumes unless something is not working right, and you should be able st smell something burning. Only gas dryers produce fumes, because they make their hear by burning gas. The electric dryer produces heat the same way a plug-in electric heater does, only on a larger scale. In fact, many hardware stores and home centers sell a kind of lint trap that allows you to vent the warm air directly into the house, and I have even seen a diverter box so that you can flip a lever to choose between venting inside in the colder weather and outside when it is warmer.
As for the humidity issue, get a humidity meter (most hardware stores sell them) to make sure that the air does not get too humid (40% - 50% is good, too dry for mold to grow readily but humid enough to prevent respiratory irritation). It is true that too much humidity will encourage mold and mildew growth, but many people use a humidifier in the winter because the air is so dry anyway. If you use one, this may be a way to save money in two ways. I hope this helps.

If you had a gas clothes dryer, it could kill you because the products of combustion include carbon monoxide. But an electric dryer does not burn any fuel in your house and so does not produce any harmful gases. On the other hand, both types of dryers pump large amounts of moisture out the vent. That moisture won't directly harm you if it's pumped straight into your house, but unless you live in a very dry area, I would expect it to contribute to accumulation of mold and mildew, and to possibly cause problems with paint peeling. Since some people are allergic to mold, I suppose in some indirect way, the unvented dryer might cause some health problems. Since you've apparently been doing this a while, I suppose you already know whether the moisture is causing problems. If it's not causing problems, it seems like you might as well keep doing what you're doing. But watch out for hidden moisture damage behind the walls and floor.

There are no "fumes" from an electric dryer. There is allot of dust and most important,,,,, the amount of humidity that is being pumped into the house. That could cause mold problems throughout the whole house. You may be saving the heat, but when you all get sick, the medical bills will be allot more. I would get it vented to the outside ASAP!!!!

The lent can build up around the house and you have a lot more dust. If the kids have allergies its bad. Or they could get some from it. The particles in the air can not be great but then again there are worse things floating around than dryer lent.

You'll all end up choking to death on "dryer lint balls." Just look at the junk inside the lint trap, and imagine how much gets past that usually ends up outside! Besides, you're already paying for the dryer heat. Be decent to your kids and get off your giant penny-pedestal of pride.

You really should vent your dryer. You can buy a device to put in line with the vent to allow the heat to "escape" to your room rather than outside.

Since you haev an elctric dryer, don't worry you won't die from the exhaust produced from your dryer. Your father-in-law is right as far as heat that comes from gas dryers which has carbon monoxide in it, alot of that in a closed area can kill.
