The people who ask this question are obviously uneducated!! WE DO NOT LABEL OURSELVES!!! The label we have been given is on every application whether it be to apply for a job, to vote, insurance benefits etc. I have never referred to myself as AFRICAN AMERICAN, it's America that does that! I am BLACK just like you're caucasian straight up. I don't know any "African Americans"

It's obvious that you are Caucasian and incredibly naive if you actually think you can bottle the racial inequalities still going on today. Being who YOU are isn't a problem because of your ethnicity but being who I am is. I'm a law abiding person, I don't bother people, I am hard working, and I am really polite. Based on what I just told you---you give me an explanation as to why a Caucasian bus station manager "escorted" me outside to wait on the bus but let the Caucasians remain inside? And yes, he even locked the door. This is 2006 and nothing much has changed. You have to live the other side before you can say get over it. Our racial differences are our present. It's also obvious that you are young.

It does seem a bit much, even for the extreme liberal that I am. And krautlove...said it best when she stated that her ethnicity does not define who she is as a person. But being a WASP myself has given my life a set of principles, values and opportunities not available to other ethnic groups, this is the point, I believe, of the constant "affirmation" to a persons race. We are a Mosaic of people, here in America, and we need to blend to fit in. Sometimes that means Wasp's need to yield and sometimes other ethnic groups need to yield. Which is where all the fighting comes in.
Peace.

You don't even know what you're talking about, just like Melli said that is the label that is given to us and in truth everyone in America is just American, but society has labeled us differently and separately as such. Get your facts straight, before you start judging people with your ignorant comments.

The people complaining about the hyper sensitive ethnic groups are not themselves members of the ethnic groups!

I think ethnicity is interesting, but agree that people get completely silly about basing their identity on ethnicity. I am white anglo protestant, but that doesn't tell you who I am, not at all. I am also country girl, conservative, animal lover, married woman, good student, enjoy music, love writing, etc. So amen to your observation.

As long as the Demorats can use such division for their own benefit, they will promote it. We are ALL children of God, and should start living like it.

I agree. People are way to sensitive and are into labeling. Live and let live.Others need to stop trying to lump people into certain categories.
