I own an HVAC company in TN & VA. It depends on your climate and where you live. Here everyone uses electric heat pumps because we have a mild climate (usually between 35 and 85 degrees most of the year). A lot of my customers are going to "duel fuel" or "hybrid" systems. This means you have a heat pump and a gas furance. The way that works is your heat pump works until it needs help. Normally the electric heat stips come on with a heat pump. With duel fuel the gas furnace comes on instead. This is the most efficient system in our area. If you live in a cold climate where the winters are long and cold, gas is probably best for you. You may also want to check out www.doe.gov the department of energy website or energystar.gov for the energy star website. These may also help you out. Without knowing where you live I can't really give you an exact answer to your question. Hope this helps though.

Gas! I have an all electric house and my bills have been in the 500.00's for the past 3 months. I live in Texas but I wish I had gas instead
