This means that some people accept the fact that Americans can walk the streets armed to the teeth, and THAT'S the cause of the problem! Only Law Enforcement Officers should be allowed to carry arms! If the Police are doing their jobs, ordinary people don't have the need to 'defend themselves'.

The world didn't change on Sept 11. Just a whole lot of people woke up to the fact there are people with a screw loose in the world.
The Al Querida attacks and the school shootings are two separate problems.
Because I had two uncles who were cops and had a father who chose not to put his head in the sand, I learned some basic self defense when I was quite small. I also learned that if you were ever put in the trunk of a car, to try and knock the taillights and turn signals out. This in the 1960's when nobody was kidnapping anybody.
One thing I did learn was, if he's got a gun, give it up.
I am not sure this is an effective way to stop most shootings. I'd put my faith in better security, gun control and more mental health services. I am skeptical that "five fifth graders and a 95 lb. art teacher can do anything but be mowed down like field mice before a man with an automatic weapon.

WOW!! That's the first I've heard of that strategy. And having only 5 minutes, so far to think it over, I would prefer to give it more thought. But, however shocking this strategy may seem for now, I'm already agreeing with it. Take a look at what happens when a gunman enters a school. How often are they simply there to TALK. NEVER. They're there to KILL. Those kids have only seconds to respond before SOME OF THEM DIE!!! I suggest EVERYBODY think this over. And no one should come to a pacifistic conclusion, without a better solution. Show me a better way and I'll consider it. Closing your eyes and wishing this didn't happen is NOT a solution.

Nice theory, but not sure I'd want my kid at the front of the pack. Why not the metal detector thing? For everyone, not just the kids.

But the world did not change after 9/11, the world just finally got to the USA. We discovered that our 30-year-old strategy for hijackings was no longer appropriate and we changed it, after the fact. However, I doubt that we want to go so far as to have that changed strategy used by schoolchildren.

Its about time people were taught to fight back for themselves. Even without being told to, I made up my mind long ago that if someone tried to open fire in my school i was NOT going to just sit there and be another victim.

Oh, and guns don't kill people, murderers do. Have you ever even fired a weapon? Firearm competitions are actually quite competitive and fun.

So what's wrong with teaching kids to fight back?

Has laying down in a still position and waiting to be shot worked as of yet?

Dizz_ obviously it's for Highschool students.--Since the majority of time they are targeted.!!!

If they want to survive, they better learn it. They sure can't depend on a bunch of wienie adults to protect them.

Sad that they need to learn that, but I would rather have them prepared.

If, heaven forbid, it every happened in our daughter's classroom. I would rather have her fight for her life than sit there and wait to be saved.
