A country music artist I can sing and play guitar but don't know where to start.

Get a part time job at a radio station. Unless you went to school to learn recording and broadcasting - this is the best way to start your knowledge base.

Buy a pickup truck, learn to play the guitar, get drunk, and make your wife mad enough to leave you. This should give you the necessary background. Oh, and would be helpful if you can sing too.

You've got to know the rules in order to break them. Just exactly what part of the business do you want to get involved in? A&R, musician, producer??? Any way you go, I suggest having a business and music degree to compete in today's market.
