My best friend just went through this. The ultrasound showed her being about 2 weeks off from how far along the Doctor was saying she was. (7 weeks vs. 5 weeks) She was also having a little spotting. The next week she went in for another ultrasound and it showed the baby was growing (about 6 1/2 weeks) and they heard the heartbeat for the first time. Until about 12 weeks, the only way you can hear the heartbeat is in the Ultrasound......the Dopplar is not that sensitive. You also have to remember, that all these dates are guesses. Figuring out the date of conception is hard to to unless there was medical intervention.

I've been through the same thing with both pregnancies and the last one I miscarried. If you are bleeding, it is normal to spot but to be safe go to the ER so they can do a ultrasound. They can also check your cervix to make sure that it is still closed. At five weeks the heartbeat isnt developed enough to hear and you normally cant hear it until 6-8 weeks. Dont stress about thatt. Just go to the ER and get checked and more than likely they will want you to stay on bedrest for a few days. And 9 times out of 10 they do ultrasounds to make sure everything is fine. Been done that road with both pregnancies and I have a two year daughter. Better safe than sorry!

If your 5 weeks it would be sooo normal not to see a heartbeat. How sure are you about your dates? if your pretty sure your 7 weeks and sono shows only 5.. then a sadder thing might have happened since your no longer tender and your spotting..sorry for this answer but i am assuming your looking for honesty here. Call the doc for sure..

commonly at five weeks there is no detectable heartbeat. things may be fine. the heart beat is usually detected 6-8 weeks along. is your spotting light and not associated with cramps? if so, it may be nothing. if it's heavy, soaking a pad and with cramps, go to your ER. breast tenderness comes and goes throughout pregnancy, so dont think too much on that. i know you're scared, i've been in your position also. if you're really concerned, go to your local ER, they'll do a vaginal ultrasound and you'll know for sure one way or another. i'll say a little prayer for you sweetie.
oh about your dates? they're usually off by a couple weeks but your ultrasound dates are much more accurate, so go with those. you're five weeks and not finding a heartbeat that early is common.

Its normal to be a few weeks off from tests to ultrasound. No worries.
You do need however, to call your doctors office now, talk to the oncall nurse, and let them know you're spotting.
MOst of the time you cant find a heart beat until 6-8 weeks on ultrasound.

I am now 8 weeks. bur at 5 1/2 weeks I had trans vaginal scan and they couldn't detect heartbeat yet, its very early still. 2 weeks later at 7 weeks they saw it beating strongly so don't worry too much. I allso believe it is fairly normal to spot in early pregnancy. If it gets very heavy you should worry, but see your doc to put your mind at rest. Im sure u are and will be fine, please try not to stress too much. Good luck xx

You are just pregnant and your baby is still developing all of it's genetic make up...
If your doctor says all is well then it is.
Try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy you will have many physical ups and downs as well as emotional.
I've attached a great sight for seeing where your baby is in whatever stage of pregnancy you are. I think you will find this very helpful.
Best wishes with your new little one....

if you are 5 weeks a baby is only a freckle. a heart beat is NOT visable until the seventh week. if your doctor's not concerned you shouldn't worry yourself either!
