I know a man who ran someone over and crushed his head. This person was sentenced to five years in prison but was released after serving 3 months. I will never understand that and I can imagine the hurt and dismay the murdered mans family feels.

In the UK they can get off a manslaughter charge if it's diminished responsibility. Not sure on the max but it should be a long time (knowing this country its probably about 6 or 7 years. Murder is 15 (although it is down to the judge at sentencing. I don't know why they don't give out the sentence there and then. They have to wait for reports, just in case the murderers 'played' them and they get hospitalised for 12 months)

I don't think Manslaughter is the same as murder.

Intent separates the two.

If you kill a human with the intent to murder that person you should get the same punishment.

If you accidentally kill someone with an automobile or some other means, you can be convicted of manslaughter for neglect of your equipment or various reasons. The length of time is meant to be equal to the crime.

Before you kill your boyfriend or husband, think twice, just leave a bad situation and start over.

The pain of your absence will be pain enough for them.

Good luck and think twice or three or four times.....

Depends on the state where you're convicted and the degree.
