You could be under inflating the tires applying more load to the outer edges of the tire,or you have a rear alignment problem.I bet its independent rear suspension right? Usually if the caster is off,you are literally dragging that wheel sideways down the road. The bottom will be kicked out a little and it will be kicked out at the back and in at the front. This is not something you can see with the eye....it takes a chassis alignment rack to measure the fraction of an inch it could be off.You either have bent chassis parts....worn bushings,or you just need an alignment period. If not tended to,the tires will wear to the cords.

Hi Jeff, this sounds like two possibility,

1) the alignment of your car chamber and
2) the pressure you pumped into your tire

i am assuming its the second one, if you under inflate your tire, the outer wall will get most of the friction when its on the surface of the road. when you OVER inflate the middle of your tyre will be the one touching the ground most of the time.

Have your local mechanic to sort out the alignment once in a while, all this will help contribute to fuel efficiency. Cheers

Alignment. Many of today's new cars can have rear alignment problems. If the tires are wearing on the outside edges I would suspect that your rear alignment is off.

Could be under inflation which causes wear on the outside of the tire. Overinflation causes wear on the middle or inside of the tire.
