Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

They're not returning hoping that something new will materialize. They're returning because they hope they are stupid, and missed something the first ten times they went.

It's just that nagging thought in the back of our minds that we've got something more nutritional in the fridge than last nights pizza!

Because someone else does the shopping or it is not their refrigerator.
