The setting on the multiport valve you mention is where you "park" the valve handle, after you've done all the winterizing for your pool. It's the last thing you do at the pool equipment and it's purpose is to keep the keystem gasket inside from sticking to the main housing over winter and possibly tearing on first use in spring.
Other than that, there's not much to do. Locate the drain cap and remove it. If whoever installed it is like me, it will be off to the right bottom side (label on the tank reads English that way, Lol, I'm in Canada). Don't lose the black rubber disc that seals it.There will be a sight glass on the multiport to unthread (looks like a small jar) and when removing it, be careful not to lose the black gasket that seals it. Don't leave it in there either. They have a nasty habit of popping out mid winter and rolling away. Put both in a safe place, like your pump basket, same goes for any other part you are storing.
When you're done blowing your return line to the pool, remove the pressure guage and swing the valve to winterize. That's it.

If you don't plan to run it during the winter, meaning the pool has been drained, the idea is to get all of the water out of it. If the pool stays full you need to run it enough that the water in it doesn't freeze. An insulated enclosure helps in the latter case.

I'm pretty sure you can find that a website for Hayward. I know I found parts for my cartrudge filter there.
