YES , i cut 8 of mine 2-3 feet from the ground, and my spruce 6 feet and a very large pine out back was cut about 8 ft from the ground, and hung a hammock from it. They will do just fine, Actually it helps them especially if its dead branches. Also by cutting a foot or 2 off the end of the branches it will allow the branches to "rise" higher because of less end weight. Cut the ends, then cut the bottem

Depends on the species. The Araucaria pines, (Monkey puzzle, hoop pine, Australian pine) only have on growing tip. If you cut that off they will grow very long lateral branches but the main trunk will not grow any higher. The Pinus species on the other hand respond well to pruning. All pine trees can have their trunks pruned without ill affect. This is widely done in forestry to produce knot free timber. Do it winter to reduce the risk of infection to the tree.

It's not only OK, it will probably make the tree healthier by increasing air flow through the trees and increasing sun penetration. Fall is a goodtime to do it.

That shouldn't be a problem I know I've seen many with the branches trimmed up so you walk under them.
