Begin a striptease in front to the TV, but don't let him touch you. As soon as his mind and lower brain are in sync, grab the remote and run! Or buy a universal remote (keep it hidden) and change the channel. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.

My mother has the same problem. I've asked him if he's not watching anything to hand over the remote. Upon the rarest occassions my father is commited towards watching a program. I'll admit as a guy that we have low attention spans, only long enough to enjoy anything before a commercial is on.
Right now, I have my doubts that I'll be chosen for 'best answer' for this. Check the TV guide for any sports game or something he'll might want to watch. Promise to tape it for him if both of you can agree to watch something together. Doing something together as couple shouldn't stop at television nor should it be a power struggle.
Another idea is tape your programs for one day per week and just watch one of his shows with him and vice versa. Bonding and finding some common ground is important in keeping a healthy relationship between a couple.

In a suprise move, grab the remote from him, and then quickly hit him in the head with it. If he still tries to grab it back, flash him. He will spend the rest of the evening staring at your chest, and won't even know what program you have on. Or you could try watching something he wants to watch too, such as football, or an action movie, or porn. Otherwise, you will never, NEVER, be in control of the TV. Men are genetically hardwired to insist on being in control of the tv. You'll have to trick him. Or assault him. Whatever.

Every other night~should be a compromise on each others part.
If logic will not work...leg wrestle him for it. On three and flip his @ss like a wet bar rag and he'll be so busy whinning that his neck hurts and you will have control, in more ways than one!

i can generally get control of the remote, when he grabs for the bag of bakery goods (brownies, cinnamon rolls, choc. chip cookies, etc.) that i wave in front of him.
by the time he`s distracted and full of sugary goodness, i`ve found my tv program, and ''lost" the remote!

Hey, for better or for worse, eh? After all, TV just rots your brain anyway. Go do something else.
