sensex is consist of 30 large shres,like reliance,infosys.every scrip has weightage on index as per their capitalisation and so.if thses shres rises or fall it impact on index is obvious.concept is to measue the mood of stock market,as there are thousands of shares and it is difficult to calculate them everytime. so 30 shares chosen from different sectors,generally they are leaders in their sector. so movement in these shares broadly gives an idea as to where share market is going.
