You can make soap with body fat and lye, just like in Fight Club :-)

The ingredients are commercially available in quantities of hundreds of kilograms to tonnes. The manufactures are not interested in selling to backyard manufacturers, so they are not offered on the retail market. Things like retinoic acid can be toxic so are not for sale at the corner store.

Home brews have short lives because they contain no preservatives. Vitamins E and C are among the most common preservatives.

Its not worth making this kind of stuff because none of these formulations are much better than others, no matter what advertising or word of mouth says. No dermatologist takes most of the implied claims of cosmetic manufacturers seriously.

On top of that the main manufacturers can sell as cheap as they like on any market. The home brew cosmetic market is already saturated with nearly useless cr.ap. Don't waste your time and money. Find some other product that people will buy.

A blind test in Australia several years ago rated Sorbolene as good as or better than skin creams costing dozens of times the price and sold in small tubs by women dressed in white clothes to look like nurses. Incidentally some of the expensive ones were short weight.

As for hair products, the best way to keep hair in good condition is to start by throwing the shampoo in the garbage and the conditioner after it.
