That depends if you want to use your pumpkins and gourds for ornamental purposes only or you want to eat them afterwards. If you want them for ornamental purposes you could use a wide variety of clear acrylic sealants or clear glues. If you want to eat them afterwards, I don't recommend putting anything on them for they could become poisionous to you or your family. I've seen people wash their pumpkins and gourds and then place a bit of butter or spray Pam cooking spray on them, however this may not be such a good idea if you want to display them out doors for this may attract unwanted bugs on them.

A spray on varnish will work. Make sure you have cleaned the gourds well and there are no bugs still in them.

If you intend to eat them dont use any of the stuff mentioned thus far.You would use food safe spray wax.My aunt owns a grocery store and uses it all the time to not only maintain freshness,but give veges appeal.

You might try clear acrylic available at crafts stores.
