since turkey killed 1 million Armenians, and they refuse to recognize it, should they be allowed into the EU? for anyone who wants to disprove me on the technicality that it was the ottoman empire at the time, thats just a difference in name. the ottoman had a "turkish" leader, and present day turkey was the center of the empire.

No turkey should not join EEC.It is an Asian country. It has over 70 million people who will submerge Europe
Turkey,Russia etc are not part of the real Europe ite people and culture.

Why Turkey should not join the EU:

Turkey is geographically, culturally, and politically far away from Europe:

Turkey is NOT geographically a European country; its main land-mass is in Asia.

Turkish culture and way of life are closer to the Middle East than to Europe.

Occupation: Turkey invaded Cyprus 1974 and it's still occupying 36% of the island keeping 35,000* soldiers on (now) EU territory. Turkey, despite being officially an EU candidate country, doesn't recognize the legal government of Cyprus. The UN has found Turkey guilty and has issued a series of resolutions which Turkey continues to violate till today.

Genocide/Ethnic Cleansing: Turkey still denies today that the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and the Pontian Genocide took place. Anyone who admits that the genocides did take place can be prosecuted for treachery under Turkish law.

Freedom of Speech: Turkey's most important intellectuals have been accused for treachery because they dared to speak against the State.

The Kurdish Question: Although progress has been made on human rights issues, Turkey has never stopped torturing the kurdish minority which amounts to more than 20% of the country’s total population.

Furthermore, we believe that the Turkish membership will be negative for European Union:

Integration at Risk: Further EU integration will be practically impossible. (This could could explain why some EU governments, traditionally hostile to European integration, and the US government, are big sponsors of Turkish EU membership.):

The little European feeling that exists today in Europe will fade away, since the majority of Europeans cannot find a link with Turkey.

More and more people will turn against the EU institutions as they will feel less and less represented.

Cost in monetary terms: According to the European Commission's impact assessment study, Turkish membership would cost the EU taxpayers 27.9 billion euros per year.

Regional Aid: The Union will have to reduce aid to some of our poorest EU regions in order to give priority to Turkey's poor economy and huge agricultural sector.

Immigration risk: If the newcomers are given the freedom to move and work freely within the Union--which is a fundamental right of every EU citizen--unemployment will rise as 72 million turkish people will be able to work freely anywhere they please in the Union.

Power Balance Shift: Turkey will be among the most important decision makers in the Union since it will be THE most populated member.

Security: There are huge security issues: The EU borders will extend to one of the most unstable and dangerous areas of the the Middle East, namely Iraq and Iran.

European leaders do not have the democratic legitimacy to start accession negotiations with Turkey. The majority of European citizens are clearly against it.

Letting Turkey in the Union is against basic EU law:

The European Union needs to finally establish its borders in order to give itself a concrete geographic definition, a material identity.

The Union hasn't yet absorbed the financial and social implications of the recent eastward expansion. Further enlargement without deepening can only lead to the intensification of internal conflict and disfunction, which could cause the Union to collapse.

First of all it is not proved that the Ottoman Empire killed Armenians in the WW1. Also the Republic of Turkey (the new republic established on the rest of the empire - the Anatolia and the Thrace - which was gained with blood and honor despite the seven nations assaulted on the Turkish Nation ) always declared all the historical documents could be easily gain by the historians and the scientists to understand a genocide happened or not.And there is not a scientifical proof until today. So we cannot say easily that Turkish people killled Armenians. But it is obvious that Armenian people killed the people of Anatolia understood by especially the Russian officers' confessions in their memories and by found mass graves in the region and the memories of the old Turkish people.Second, you can not say that The Ottoman Empire is the same as Turkey. The Ottoman Empire was a monarchy mixed with many nations and ethnic people. And It was like a federation as the USA. The monarch had surrendered to the victorians completely after the war. 'The monarch and its subjects concept', is not the same as 'A democrat, republician and populist leader and his nation who fought for its independence and the liberation to the bloody, cunning and merciless occupiers in the excess amount that not seen in the history and to the monarch and reactionary system.Third, The turkish history is known since the first Turkish called tribes and the states explained in the history in the Middle Asia. And this history always was searced by the Foreign historians, not the Turkish historians. Just on the last decades Turkish historians and scientists wrote original scientific documents about their history. So the West historians writes the Turkish history again and again how some decided. So - called Armenian genocide tale will be written again in the future in a new format. The Ottoman Empire governed on the three continents by 619 years and not heard any genocide about the empire governors and managed the countries well, only Armenian lie. If the Japan citizens of the USA living in the country rebeled and killed the other US citizens, and willed establishing a new state and goverment in a state in the WW2 by using the power of another occupier and the out of border guerillas, would the US Goverment not take measures? ( in fact the US Gov.isolated and took freedomness and the rights of Japan citizens without a threat in the WW2.) The entire history of the world always writes the honor, pride, humanity, courage, heroism and justice of the Turkish Nation not the injustice, unlawful and masaccre as not the other bloody nations even living in the world still. The Turkish Nation and People is mature and objective to the really thruths proven by the historians and the scientists and will wait till the thruths will come to light. Last, the rest of the Armenians which not rebeled and lived in the other towns s in the country was not touched by the Ottoman authorities and not exiled. And they have lived since that time with the same citizen rights in tranquility, richness and liberty.
And the other topic; How should the killer and the exploiter of the millions of the human in the Asia, America, Africa and the Oceania in the history and now be allowed to the EU and should the Turkey not allowed?

I thought only Chirstian nations are allowed in the EU. Otherwise, I don't care if Turkey gets into the EU or not, as long as they can economically contribute to the EU.

Who wouldn't want to join the EU?

It's popular among its people. Strong currency, good social and health systems.

Turkey in its passed killed a lot of people. Just like the USA killed a lot of Indians. you can't hold it's far gone past against Turkey.
