Anytime you introduce a new factor into a relationship there are pro's and con's. Children are a blessing, they are also a lot of work. That work can leave you exhausted, both physically and mentally.
The best plan for having children, is exactly that, a plan. Most important you need to be emotionally secure in your relationship, then being financially secure comes in second.
To many people have kids for the wrong reasons. Children should be an extension of your love, not a reason for your love.

The change is usually for the worse between the couple unless they make it a point to put their relationship on top of their priorities which is difficult because the children inevitably becomes the top priority. However bad their relationship turns, they will never admit that they regret having children because their maternal instincts prevent them from feeling so. This is the work of nature. Without this instinct, the human race will die out.

I was thrilled when I was pregnant with my first child and then after that my husband wanted me to stay home with my children. I had three children. So he worked either overtime or more than one job. Which I didn't like nor the children. Sometimes I felt like a single mother. But when he was home, our relationship was great!!!!! As soon as the youngest started school I started work part time and when the oldest started college I went back to nursing and my husband finally was able to work like a normal person.

When my children were infants my relationship with my husband was very rocky, but as they got older (they are 5 and 7 now) it's much easier and we love spending time together as a family. Even though our lives are hectic and we don't get to connect often, we set aside one day a week for family fun day and we ALL look forward to it. We either go roller skating, swimming, biking...It's so much fun and my husband and I love being parents.
Anyway, it's really hard in the beginning when having children is new and your not sure what your doing, but if you stick with it...I think it makes your relationship even stronger.

Having kids is fantastic, but it does change marriage. Communication is more difficult, so arguments have increased, we're more distant, have subtle parenting differences that are hard to work out sometimes, our focus is on the kids instead of on each other,...time together as a couple is difficult to get, and sometimes it seems like life controls us instead of us controlling our lives. But I wouldn't trade them for the world.
