I was told about four weeks ago that I have migraine - today I woke up with headrush, a dizzy feeling/distorted vision. Should I be concerned about this and see my doctor, or just take the medication he prescribed me?

My husband has suffered from migraines for over 7 years. He has 7 to 10 migraines a month even with preventative meds. He takes Relpax at the first sign of a migraine and this stops them before they get to bad. You should take the meds and be patient. Sometimes it takes 2-3 weeks for a med to start working. If you experience severe effects (fainting or blackout) yes call the doctor! Also, A lot of migraine meds have side effects that take some getting used to.
Remember that sometimes your body will worn you that a migraine is coming. Some of the systems you described (dizzy/distorted vision) my husband gets right before a migraine.

sounds like early symptoms of a migraine episode to me, but if you follow these links you'll find out more about the different types of migraine:

The second of these - The Migraine Trust, also provides advice to help you identify the triggers for your migraines. This is really important in helping you to manage your migraines and its disappointing that your question here suggests your doctor didn't try hard to explain about migraines to you in the first place. - Especially since some types of migraine can be accompanied by temporary paralysis on side of your body and problems with vision; things that could be dangerous if you were driving for example.

I have suffered with migraines since I was at primary school; I've now been a migraine sufferer for about 30 years so I've learn a lot about managing them and recognising the early symptoms. I have to say, if you are having a migraine, take your medicine and STEP AWAY from the computer - the glare of the screen will do nothing to help you clear the migraine. Drink plenty of fluids (dehydration can exacerbate the problem), eat a little as soon as you feel hungry - even if you don't feel much like eating, and try lying down in a darkened room. Your senses are heightened so light, sound, smells can all make you feel worse.

Now what are you doing still reading this? - Go and take your migraine medication and good luck. You will learn to cope with them, I assure you, and then they'll just be a dratted nuisance that throws your life out of kilter for a day or so every few months.

Take the meds keep a diary of your migraine noting your symptoms then you can pick up on them before they get bad - it helps believe me I have had them on and off for a few years. Some people get tingling on their faces, flashing side vision numb fingers furry tongues as early indicators - headrush could be yours.

Take the medication. If it doesn't work and you don't feel any better by tomorrow, then see a doctor.
