We have incredibly strict immigration rules here (I married an American and it took six months to sort out a UK visa). Speak to Citizen's Advice, or, at a push, a solicitor (he told us to marry and it'd be fine - it was). The other option is to leave for a period of time and return with a fresh visa. France is close for a few weeks and quite nice. Glad you like the UK though. Many of it's "locals" don't. :) Good luck.

I was under the impression that 'visitors' just stayed and disappeared into the population at large, willy nilly.
