Let me guess, you had to have your cam sensor AND HOPEFULLY YOUR SYNCHRONIZER as well, replaced to service the DTC (diagnostic trouble code) for loss of cam signal, and maybe rough running, stalling, or the VERY annoying squeaking sound they make, VERY similar to a belt squeel? On those cars, if the check engine light is on, it's either because you need to replace the DPFE sensor, or the aforementioned cam sensor AND SYNCHRO. Replacing the cam sensor alone won't fix the problem. The synchro is the part under the sensor driven mechanically by the camshaft. They usually sludge up, and seize. If your car is equipped with the 3.0L V6 24 valve Duratec engine, disregard everything I've mentioned, except for the DPFE part.

Usually the check engine light will go out after you have started the car a few times. once the problem is fixed. It needs to be re-scanned it sounds like something else is wrong emmissions related, like a sensor. check the gas cap as well if it is not threaded on right or the cap is faulty that may trigger the light. Having a service engine light on can effect your gas milage.

I wouldn't worry about it. It has been on for 100,000 miles on my truck and I don't really care. There are so many oxygen sensors and other crap on a vehicle these days that ANYTHING can trigger the "Service Engine Soon" light.
Most places like Pep-Boys or a car parts place have a reader that they connect to your car for free and tell you why the light comes on. Then you can decide if its worth taking to a shop or not. Save your money I say.

Have the code number read. There is no reset buttion, what do you think this is a garbage disposal? Well it might be? Some codes are failed parts and other are circuit malfunctions. Disconnecting battery just clears the keep alive memory and does not clear emissions related code number. Auto parts store read the code and clear it at your own risk. I would however write down the freeze frame data and code(s)
