What country?

In the USA you file a new W-4. Your employer has to take out what you tell them.

In the UK you have your tax office instruct your employer to withhold more under PAYE.

Canada is similar to the US system.

when you do your W-4, in the US, after you choose weather your single, married, or married but withhold at a higher single rate, you can put an additional ammount you would like to have taken out. The employer can also break it down between state and federal on how much you want. All employers can do the seperation between state and federal, some are just to lazy to do it.

You should be able to set the level of exemptions you claim to 0 single, to have the most taken out of your check for taxes. This is allowed by law. If your employer will not make the adjustment, check with your local IRS.

You can change your W-4 status, BUT, make sure you pay what you own by April 15!! Or support candidates whom support the Fair Tax. http://www.fairtax.org/

In the U.S. you can claim exempt and pay nothing for awhile, then in a year or so they will garnish your wages and take out much more than you care for them to.
