By long distance I mean living in different states (say one on the east coast and one on the west coast) or living in different countries. Also I would be happy to get an example where a relationship worked.

Im am a lesbian. I live in Geiorgia and my girlfriend lives in North carolina. I havnt seen her fo almost 5 months now, but I still love her as much as ever. I think that if two people, truly, honestly love eachother, then it can work.

Peoples opinions doesn't define your relationship. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, only what you do with you and yours. Sometimes married rules are too damn binding and difficult to get out of. The goal is the same as in a straight relationship, love is love. The only difference is road blocks and trying to change society. That takes time.

Depends upon the partners if they are willing to work it out. It makes me think if this is possible too in the case of 2 gay women. Whatever... as long as there is love between the partners, the relationship will survive.

i don't think long distance relationships work for most. being gay has nothing to do with it, the main reason we are in relationships are for intimacy (not just sexual all intimacy). it's just really hard to keep that connection when you're far apart. i wish i knew of a success story to tell you, my sole example is the opposite i had 2 dear friends who were in a long distance relationship for 2 years while 1 was in college, when he graduated they moved together but had grown into different people the day to day cohabitation just drove them nuts they lasted 6 months after they moved in together..................sorry, but GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I wouldn't start a long distance relationship with anyone who you haven't meet in person yet but through webcams you could see your partner and still have that emotional connection which is important in maintaining a relationship.
