The cost of gold is measured in ounces and you can get the daily quote from the newspaper and then convert that to grams. There are 28 grams in an ounce, or you could go to a jeweler and ask them.

The market price in your newspaper is per Troy ounce, which is very close to 31.1 grams (453.6 * 480 / 7000). A regular ounce is only 28.35 grams (453.6 / 16), which doesn't apply, but two of your other answerers didn't know that.

If you're asking about the US market, the last price was $588.8 (1) for 100 troy ounces(2). 100 troy ounces are 3110.34768 grams (3) therefore 1 gram of gold is 588.8/3110.34768 = $0.19.
