Well, ya know, my 3 year old boy enjoys the Simpsons and can name most of the characters. I believe it is totally harmless to them at this point in time. However I believe that the show is really geared toward the adult world and has always pretty much been, like I am sure alot of other people would agree.

At 2, he's probably just enjoying the colors and the movement. But he is also exercising his motor skills and learning basic vocabulary and will pick up anything he hears. For that reason alone, this is not an appropriate show for that age. The storylines, dialogue, etc are considered too mature for children, even teenagers. Also, it promotes that it's ok for kids to be disrespectful to parents and other adults.

Based on your question, I would have to assume that you've never sat down and watched an episode from beginning to end, or else you don't find it remotely offensive. That is your perogative but is also one of the reasons that kids are allowed to get away with so much more today and thus turn into uncontrollable hellions as they grow older, is because they have little to no supervision in what they are allowed to watch and do even at a very young age.

As he is getting older, he will then start talking like Bart and Homer. I do know this for a fact, as my 2 year old now six, talks exactly like Bart does on the Simpsons. When he is around 7 or eight, then I would let him watch, but first explain to him, if you hear any of that lanuage coming from his mouth, you will not let him watch Simpsons.

At age two your child doesn't understand the plot of the show. Right now he's learning of what's considered funny. My theory is he's laughing because you are as well at the jokes and situations. We all know and fear at that age it's 'monkey see, monkey do'.

You as a parent it's up to you to teach him not to immitate of what's seen on television and consider of what he can and cannot watch. No one else has that right because you are the parent, not them. The best advise I can give you is let him watch Bugs Bunny cartoons.

I'd recomend when he gets older to the age of Bart and Lisa that he'll be able to comprehend the jokes and plots. The last thing you want to do for this child at his age is allowing the television to be the baby-sitter.

This is a time when he learns things very easily. Even though he may not understand what is going on he will accept it as being normal and his character will lean in that direction. If that is the way you want your family to be then this will help, but if you are trying to develop different standards in your home then he should not be watching it. Neither should anyone else in the family either. It can't just be bad for him and not for the adults. Then he will just think that when he gets older it will be okay for him to act that way even if he hasn't seen much.

I love The Simpsons, but it is an adult cartoon. There are many cartoons right for his age group, he doesn't have to watch The Simpsons.

The Simpsons is social satire for adults.
Introduce him to classic Warner Bros. cartoons (not this new garbage that looks like it was drawn with a protracter!), and Andy Griffith is sweet and gentle.

I agree at 2 he is just enjoying the colors, and cartoon aspect of the show, there isn't real swear words on the show, and lisa's voice is kind of babyish, so he probably likes it like kids would like elmo cartoons....don't see any big deal about your 2 yr old watching the simpsons....sorry all you over protective parents out there...

I agree he should not be watching it, there are some pretty inappropriate things in that show, same with Family Guy , my son is 5 and has caught a few moment of those shows and would love to watch them but we dont let him. In the end it is your choice though
