Here are a few off the top of my head. North Korea could attack S. Korea and they are now more likely to win. They are certainly more capable of quickly causing enormous devastation.

They have the nuclear bargaining chip and can extract promises and concessions from other nations by threatening them.

This upsets the balance of power in the region and Japan and other Asian nations are likely to begin nuclear programs.

Kim Jong Il may sell materials for making dirty (suitcase type) bombs to international terrorists. He needs the money and is ruthless.

Bush had 6 years to stop the NK program, and the ability to do so peacefully. He didn't try. Don't believe that the left wing controls the main stream media. Here it was clearly in the interest of Bush supporters to neglect this story for years, while Bush was neglecting and refusing to negotiate. This is what the US MSM did -- they rarely reported on NK's nuclear program or on it's implications for the region.
