There are a few reasons that schools install uniforms in their school.
1. They know that that student belongs in their school.
2. Some kids don't have a lot of money for clothes, and don't want to look trashy in front of richer kids, so the school installs uniforms so everyone can fit in no matter how much money they have.
3. Students were becoming more and more late to school, most likely they were picking out an outfit, so the school has students wear uniforms so they can just throw it on and go to school without being late.
However, I don't really like uniforms because it doesn't give you a chance to express yourself. If everyone looked the same then no one would have anything to say. Imagine your school telling you EXACTLY how to dress. I mean, a dress code, no tube tops, etc. That's reasonable. However, uniforms are just a way that they want to make us all into perfect little robots.
But that's just my opinion.

I'd say, yes so poorer people can feel equal, but at the same time, from what I know, it doesn't really make them equal - other students will still pick up on it from other hints. I'd say it's so people know which school you're from. Also so that the school looks smarter as a whole. Perhaps though, it could be as practice for when students have jobs with uniforms?

I wish the school I teach at had school uniforms. Then some five year olds wouldn't be wearing their Juicy clothes while others are wearing pants so tight they can't be buttoned or zipped. Actually, I wish the teachers could wear uniforms too so I don't have to think about what to wear either!

There are plenty of reasons. Schools have uniforms for safety standards so that the children don't burn to death in a metalwork class if a spark ignites nylon clothing, they can be easily picked out in a crowd and identified if they get lost, and so that all the children are the same, which therefore stops them from picking on one another as they all wear the same thing.

so that students who can't afford expensive clothes can study in an environment where they don't feel inferior. when all the students wear uniforms, it makes sure that the economic standards of the kid's parents don't matter

Evens the playing field a bit. The children are focused on school, rather than on what brand or style of clothing the girl sitting next them is wearing.
