Very good question indeed, and one which is pertinent to world political position at the moment!
Islam is not the only religion to have acts of violence enacted under the guise of faith! From the dawn of history, wars and acts of agression have been enacted under numerous religious rulers (Crusades for instance). In more recent times, the 'problems' in Northern Ireland (Protestants vs Catholics) have been 'blessed' by the respective religious leaders and apparently GOd was on both sides.
Islam, if you where to look at the basis for the faith, is a very peaceful, tolerant and accepting faith, however as with any major faith which has political ties, there will always be a VERY small minority who wich to bastardise the religion in order to twist and turn in to suit their desires.
Therefore, instead of blaming the religion itself, look more closely at the warlords who are claiming their religion instructs them to partake in genocide or war or acts or terrorism! It is not the faith which is full of contradictions, it is the people who are interpreting the faith to suit their own peverse needs.

Religions have always been violent in the name of 'peace and love man!' I'm sick of religions! I was born into the Church of England then educated in a Roman Catholic convent. The Church of England disillusioned me when the Archbishop of York announced there was no such thing as a 'virgin birth' - they had taught me that, the Roman Catholics used to make children from poor families take money to school every week for the church and learn the Catechism just like the mantras of Jews and Muslims, and I look at what the Israeli Jews did to Lebanon and the way Muslims allowed their young tearaways to wreak death an destruction in London. I still think trying to live within the 10 commandments and dealing direct with your 'higher power' is by far superior to any religion.

Because they aren't all peaceful. I've noticed that many people can't answer this question, but they can launch into attack about Christians etc. Fine, but the question wasn't about whether Christians are peaceful or not. Nobody has mentioned the Armenians. Perhaps if they haven't all been wiped out, one will answer the question fully.

Very simple...the Turks, mainly the ones called the "Young Turks", decided to commit genocide on a christian peoples to keep their country "clean".
This happened between 1880 and 1915. In 1915, a million and a half Armenians were either slaughtered or placed on death marches by the Turks, who by the way, still dismiss any blame or knowledge about the atrocities.

Onward Christian soldiers, marching on to war, with the cross of jesus, going on before.
Any human being who can still think freely with an open mind, that is, None religious, none political and none X factor Voter, will tell you, You are a bunch of brainwashed idiots and the sooner you annialate eachother, the better life will be for the rest of us, who are really suffering, being led by brainwashed corrupt religious people and politicians.
By the way, the bible is full of contradictions, and anyone who quotes the bible or the Torah or the Quran seriously need to think before they do, maybe even try to read all of the book instead of remembering your favourite bit and quoting it.

constructive attempt yet this could be a failed attempt to make Christians or Christianity for that remember, look undesirable. all of us understand o.k. Islam had quite a violent background in case you understand background. the two events are able to doing evil. via the time the Crusades finally began, Muslim armies had conquered 2-thirds of the Christian worldwide. Europe were perplexed via Muslims because of fact the 1st few years following Muhammad’s dying. As early as 652, Muhammad’s followers released raids on the island of Sicily, waging an entire-scale occupation 200 years later that lasted just about a century and become punctuated via massacres, including that at city of Castrogiovanni, wherein 8,000 Christians have been positioned to dying. In 1084, ten years till now the 1st marketing campaign, Muslims staged yet another devastating Sicilian raid, burning church homes in Reggio, enslaving priests and raping an abbey of nuns till now wearing them into captivity. that is humorous how some naive Muslims attempt to cite Bible passages they lack awareness of like Matthew : 10:34. yet have they asked themselves how Jesus lived. on condition that whilst did Jesus ever pass around killing human beings. uncomplicated sense.

Oh come on! Serbian Christians were annihilating Serbian Muslims in Kosovo. They called it ethnic cleansing. Does that make the Christian faith unpeaceful and full of contradictions? Some people are Idiots and that's common among all faiths. It's sad to see religion used to disguise what is really being fought over, power.
You should have brought up Africa. Christians there are being slaughtered now, yet I haven't seen an outcry among my Christian brethren for those poor black christian souls. Another example that it's all about power.
Power is control over the earths resources, such as oil, water, ect.

All religions are full of contradictions. Do not confuse God with any religion. All murders are done by the people.God has given us humans Free Will which He will never take away. God does not interfere in human actions. Following religious reasoning God is so useless that He needs men to do his murdering of infidels,goys,Jews,communists,etc.,etc. Is it not stupid to even think that God would be involved in it.God is love, life ,joy, freedom, and He reflects this attributes. If these are different then again following religious thoughts, it must be the work of the devil and all the perpetrators of these murders are the sons of the devil and their reward is not heaven and virgins, but hell.
You see it can be made into a belief and bang we have new religion!
So forget the past, live in NOW enjoy life and all the gifts of the earth, be happy happiness is within you, and so is God.
Have a good day.

If Christians are a peacful people why did the support slavery, jim crow, abortion clinic bombings, and rally outside of soldiers funerals?
Now, isn't everything I just wrote ridiculous. Christianity is not responsible for the actions of these fake christians, who use religion to justify their actions. And the Islamic faith is the same, people who either mis-interperet the teachings of islam, or purposfully use religon to recruit are not true Muslims.
And, wake up the bible is full of contradictions. In the end its called faith for a reason, Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. Won't anyone of use know for sure if we are right until we die.
