The light bulbs are 12v 10 watt G4 's and there are 8 of them.

Yes PROBABLY, first make sure that the dimmer is suitable for operating with an electronic and/or torroidal transformer, AFTER you find out what type of transformer is in the light fitting. Some cheapo dimmers are not suitable and will ficker and /or burn out.

BILL is a bit off track, in fact way off!! the dimmer you will use is a MAINS VOLTAGE type, the transformer is in the luminaire and works on 240volts, reducing it to 12 volts for the lamps. A little knowledge is indeed a dagerous thing!!

I don't have an Argos cat. so can't see the full spec. but it appears to be 80 watts total, so the dimmer you get will probably be rated @60-250 va/watts.

If you can find a 12v dimmer, you can use it, if you can't find one, use an old Interior light dimmer for an auto.

You can use a dimmer switch on any bulb, but not fluorescents
